Jonathan Levine Gallery Streets of Europe Exhibition

On December 1st, New York City's Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be transformed into one of the most significant US exhibitions on European street art to date. Not one, not two, not three of the finest European street artists, but six! Obviously, we're not talking about Banksy here, but he once said about one of the starring six, "Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well. Only twenty years earlier..." The Streets of Europe: A Survey of European Street Art will showcase work from Space Invader [previously], D*Face, Blek Le Rat, Blu, Microbo and Bo130, all who have their own style, medium and definition. Yes, they do what they do well. If you can't make it to the opening, or Europe, the show will be up through December 29th. Bios on each artist can be read here.

Jon Todd and Another Juxtapoz Post

It was just two posts ago that I mentioned Jon Todd but I must repeat that his work is incredible which is pretty much why my second Juxtapoz post would be on him. Also check out his new clothing designs at Elliptic Clothing. All handscreened and limited releases. Sweet.

We like what we've been seeing from Canadian artists lately, so we would like to put a spotlight on Jon Todd whose work you may have recently seen in the Sweet Calaveras group show at Yves LaRoche in Montreal. Todd's portraiture work combines intricate illustration, painting and detailed collage that really can be only appreciated by seeing it up close. It's been a busy year for Todd with his work being up for a clothing line and having been in group shows at Toyroom Gallery, Thinkspace Gallery, DVA Gallery and an upcoming show at Ghetto Gloss Gallery in Los Angeles.

Todd's site, www.jontodd.ca, has just been updated with his works from 2007, and he has some limited edition prints only available here.

Jen Corace But Really Shameless Self Promotion

Jen's work is superb. Points for being a Dirty Jerz and that she's obsessed about making her own CD-R art! I've been waiting a year for her next show which happens to be in New York and unfortunately while I'm away. Sheesh.

So my first news post on Jen Corace is now up on Juxtapoz. Hey, I know it's not much and something I would have probably posted on here anyway so all the better that it's out there for everyone to see.

I used to have a column back for a music weekly in New Jersey, though I never quite got the right motivation while I was there. The copy editing for one thing was damaging but on the plus side - I did interview Anthrax (anyone else like 80s metal other than Angela Boatwright?).

The Weekend

All weekend I basically tried to make more available space on my walls to hang some more pieces. Measuring and hammering away. I really need a laser level. More pics to come. But for now, this is what hangs currently on one of my walls:














The two decks are by Jon Todd and the center piece is by Shepard Fairey. Underneath, a print from Claire Weiss of Day 19 and to the right a Brandt Peters sketch.

I'm glad that Jon Todd finally made his way onto Juxtapoz. Check out the Sweet Calaveras show coverage on Juxtapoz. His stuff is really amazing and you can't really get a good grasp of his work without seeing it up close. Yves Laroche happens to be the place where I first saw works by Jon Todd last year. Keep a look out for him, he will be showing at Thinkspace next year.
